oscars are off

I managed to saw only three of candidates. George Cloney’s lemonade, Johny Deep’s extra ordinary exaggeration of today’s people relations (and perhaps world politics) and No country for old man. The first two I actually was watching in “skip mode”… you know, when from time to time you forward the movie so that it will finish sooner? But not the No country for old man…

I am not sure, why Javier Bardem got nominated only in a support actor category. I mean, if he was supporting actor, who was the lead actor then? Anyway, he got it. The Oscar that is and I am realy happy, since he deserves it. You can watch his “thank you cam” here. See how smooth and sincere his thank you is? If you don’t, watch some others…

I still need to see Juno and There Will Be Blood. Talk to you then. If you have some pointers for other movies, please do so. I would appreciate saving time to skip crappy ones….

no country for old Men

is a completely different story than Michael Clayton for example. This is a movie that takes your attention immediately. It just pools you in. Why is it having a nominee only in supporting actor category? I mean, if we compare it to the Michael Clayton?

It is about how things change in one or two generations’ time and bout a level of aggression people are capable of. Llewelyn Moss is a Vietnam veteran that just happens to be at the right place at the right time. Or maybe not. His luck changed when he got this feeling for mankind back while he was trying to get some sleep. This human value is going to cost him a life in the end – him, and lots of other people around him. What is there most you lost in a coin toss? For a guy that was never or rarely in a position to fight for things in life this question is not understandable. And he got lucky again. Anton Chigurh is after Llewelyn. Anton is systematic cold bloody killer; and a man of word! Llewelyn is an old school surviver not knowing who he is dealing with. Wounded and whole bloody he got trough customs to Mexico when he is about to get in double trouble when he recovers. The name of his new trouble is Carson Wells.

There are lots of good dialogs in the movie. A coin toss situation between Anton and owner of gas station, sheriff trying to persuade Llewelyn’s wife to reveal him Llewelyn’s position, dialog between Anton and soon-to-be-a-dead-guy Carson, two Sheriffs discussing now days etc. Anton is a ghost and he vanishes like one in the end. Our Sheriff though is having dreams of the old days with his father… Is it because he retired?

Folks, remember your youth – older you’ll get, more and more you’ll need this memory.
